COMMON PROJECT AND HEALTHCARE TERMS
Full names before shorthand.
Project manager or project management
The person coordinating the outcome, owners, timing, evidence, risks, and decisions. The acronym can also describe the profession.
Project Management Professional
A professional certification from the Project Management Institute for people who meet its experience, education, and examination requirements.
Artificial intelligence
Computer systems that organize, generate, or analyze information. FI5E uses artificial intelligence to create editable starting drafts and guidance that the user must review.
Work in Progress
A live portfolio record showing active projects, status, next actions, owners, dates, risks, and current comments.
Owner-Architect-Contractor
A recurring coordination meeting or record connecting the owner, design team, contractor, decisions, and action items.
Risks, Assumptions, Issues, and Dependencies
A control record used to keep uncertainty, current problems, and work that relies on other work visible.
Personal protective equipment
Safety equipment required for the work area, such as a hard hat, safety glasses, high-visibility clothing, gloves, or protective footwear.
Project schedule shown across time
A visual schedule showing tasks, dates, overlap, dependencies, and milestones.
Information technology
The teams and systems responsible for networks, devices, cybersecurity, interfaces, applications, data, and technical support.
General contractor
The party accountable for coordinating construction work, subcontractors, site controls, schedule execution, and required construction records under the governing agreement.
Heating, ventilation, and air conditioning
The systems and qualified specialists responsible for environmental control, airflow, temperature, humidity, and related facility conditions.
Internet Protocol / virtual local area network
Network addressing and logical network segmentation used by authorized information-technology teams to connect and protect equipment and systems.
Radio frequency
Electromagnetic energy used by certain communications and medical-imaging systems. Qualified specialists must determine technical and safety requirements.
Protected health information
Individually identifiable health information protected by applicable privacy rules. Do not enter it into FI5E.
Electronic health record
The digital system used to manage patient health information and related clinical workflows.
Computed tomography
Medical-imaging equipment that uses X-rays and computer processing to create detailed cross-sectional images.
Magnetic resonance imaging
Medical-imaging equipment that uses a strong magnetic field and radiofrequency energy to create detailed images.
Molecular imaging
Imaging methods that show biological processes using specialized tracers, equipment, facility controls, and clinical workflows.
Positron emission tomography/computed tomography
A combined molecular and anatomical imaging system requiring coordinated equipment, facility, radiation, technology, workflow, and readiness planning.
